Dear Baldwin Park Families,
As more of our students choose to ride bicycles and electric scooters to school, their safety is our shared responsibility. These green, healthy ways of getting around encourage independence, but also require all of us to stay alert and proactive.
With more traffic on our streets and sidewalks, it’s essential that students understand and practice safe riding. Studies show bicycle and scooter injuries have increased among children, but most are preventable with the right habits and equipment.
Safety Essentials
- Wear a properly fitted helmet every ride.
- Use bright colors, reflectors, and lights to stay visible.
- Choose closed-toe shoes for stability and protection.
- Routinely check brakes, tires, and overall condition.
On the Road
- Ride on the right side, with traffic.
- Follow all traffic signs and signals.
- Stop and look both ways at intersections.
- Yield to pedestrians and be respectful to others.
- No headphones or distractions while riding.
- Use hand signals and walk bikes/scooters across crosswalks.
Electric Scooter Tips
- Keep to safe speeds and avoid busy roads or crowded sidewalks.
- Don’t ride in wet or slippery conditions.
- Supervise young riders in familiar areas.
- Walk or ride the school route with your child and point out potential hazards. Be a role model for safe behavior. We encourage you to help us identify the safest routes and to reach out with concerns.
Our school is committed to ongoing safety education and works with local partners to protect all our students. Together, we can make sure everyone arrives at school safely, ready to learn.
Thank you for partnering with us in creating a safe environment!
Wishing everyone safe and happy travels,
